My grandmother had a similar recipe. However, after the fruitcake was finished and cooled, she would take cheese cloth soaking in spice rum and brandy and wrap it around the cake. She would let it sit overnight until is was absorbed. It was fantastic.

I love fruitcake! My grandmother makes some every year and as she's mixing the dough, without fail, it always "looks like it needs a little more rum." Your version looks absolutely delicious!
